Scaphoid Fracture

PEARLS:
1. Scaphoid is the most commonly fractured carpal, followed by the Triquetral.
2. Three types:
    a. Waist >70%         b. Distal pole           c. Proximal pole
3. Associated with avascular necrosis of the proximal pole (blood supply enters from distal end and flows proximally), and distal pole fractures have the worst prognosis.
4. Clinically, presents with snuffbox tenderness, more common in young adults, M>F.
